We love smoothies at our house. By just having frozen fruit and orange juice, you can make a multiple variety of these frozen concoctions whenever you like. Unfortunately, with the rising cost of fruit, especially frozen fruit, it is nearly impossible to make these often during fall and winter. But, spring is here! Due to this delightful season, many of your major food chain stores carry great deals right now, making it a prime freezing season for fruit. Aldi advertised 99 cent 1 lb. boxes of strawberries this week, along with 99 cent pineapples. I jumped on this special and bought two pineapples and 5 packs of strawberries. This is enough to get us through "smoothieville" for the next few months! Once home, I put the strawberries immediately into Ziploc bags and into the freezer they went, greens and all. I don't wash them until right before processing as it makes them stick together. Those green tops have lots of nutrients in them, and no one will know you slipped them into their smoothie drink if you don't tell. The pineapples were cut into serving sizes and placed on a cookie sheet in a single row and popped into the freezer until frozen solid. Once that was accomplished I placed those in Ziploc bags too.
2 cups frozen fruit, any
orange juice to just cover
Use any seasonal fruit you enjoy. Fruit is best if frozen. Just slip berries and other fruits into blender with OJ and whirl until done. Simple, and elegant if placed in a beautiful glass!
