something about the effervescence of the pungent spicy aroma that lets off
creating whiffs of delight for family members. It has been some time since I
made an apple pie, and I just received a bag of apples from the local food
pantry. We enjoy apples, but have had our fill since fall, so I thought, "Why
not make something that will make everyone smile?" So here it is my Old
Fashioned Apple Pie recipe. I know you'll enjoy it as much as we do.
3 lb. apples
Pastry for two crust pie
3/4 cup sugar
1 tbs. lemon juice
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1 1/2 tab. cornstarch
1/8 tsp. salt
1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
2 tab. butter or margarine
Pare and core apples, slicing each 1/4 inch thick, toss with lemon juice. Line
1/2 of the apple slices in 9" pie pan with crust. Stir sugar, spices, and
cornstarch. Sprinkle with one half of the mixture. Line remaining 1/2 and
sprinkle with remaining mixture. Be sure to heap apples in the center. Dot with
butter or margarine. Place second crust on top of apples and seal with a fork
or fingers. Bake in 425 degrees for 40 minutes. YUM!
