About Us

There are fourteen million Americans out of work recently reported by the Bureau of Labor Statistics on 8/11. Many of these individuals have been unemployed for more than 27 weeks. A record 45.8 million people, regardless of employment, now receive some form of food stamps from the govenment. Sadly, for those that have families, it becomes a daily crisis to put food on the table.
Since 2008, the number of hungry families has grown 35%. Food banks now serve 37 million Americans each year. For some, life without aide, is unthinkable. In fact, Feeding America, the nation's largest network of food aide, is showing record donations — $75 million in the 2011 fiscal year that ended in June, compared with $56.1 million the year before.
Newly reduced to poverty level, Americans are finding their way into lines of their local food banks. Many are finding it difficult to learn new techniques in keeping their family healthy in this canned food oasis. This blog was created by a health-conscious cook who has learned new cooking methodologies and is able to keep her family nutritionally sound. You are about to find out that thrifty food can be tasteful!
